Keep debate going strong in the DC area

Founded in 2002, the District of Columbia Urban Debate League is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that facilitates competitive speech & debate programs and provides speech & debate education to middle school and high school students throughout the Metropolitan D.C. area. DCUDL focuses on bringing competitive debate to schools experiencing the greatest financial and academic need. Numerous studies demonstrate that debaters from all backgrounds develop lifelong skills that benefit them in their current studies and future careers. Each study has also shown that minority and underserved populations particularly benefit from participation in competitive debate. Urban Debaters gain crucial interpersonal skills, such as self-confidence and peaceful conflict resolution.
DCUDL works in partnership with all interested schools to support new and existing scholastic debate teams across D.C., Maryland, and Northern Virginia. The league facilitates monthly participation in local tournaments for each of our middle school and high school divisions, in addition to providing training and education for our coaches and students.
DCUDL needs your help to sustain debate opportunities for students for the upcoming school year.
DCUDL is a volunteer-based organization that is now hosting online tournaments to accommodate the season of Covid 19.
Our current goal will make sure we can provide the minimum services to our current students. We have over 10 tournaments per year, for each of our Middle School and High School divisions.
Please help us ensure that all DC area students have the opportunity to improve their academic achievement and college readiness through competitive debate!
We welcome any of our Honorary Debaters to attend a tournament, and address our students about what most inspires you in your career. Please inquire about topics of particular relevance to your area of expertise.
