Keep Dale From Becoming Homeless!
Donation protected
It’s said that 60% of Americans are one paycheck away from homelessness - and unfortunately, I’m very close to becoming a part of that statistic.
Most of you in my network are aware of my journey: I’ve spent the past 8+ years as the primary caregiver to my now-deceased (11 months ago) mother, and once she passed, I needed total hip replacement surgeries (yes, BOTH hips); my plan was to return to the workforce once I got past these procedures, and I budgeted my share of her humble estate to cover those interim expenses.
The first surgery went swimmingly, and I recovered with ease. The second, not so much.
What I didn’t - and couldn’t - plan for were the extenuating circumstances: a complication from the second surgery (a massive hematoma at the hip joint that required an additional 4-day hospital stay, and an entire month of recovery for the fluid that wasn’t extracted by syringe to be reabsorbed), and an IRS refund from 2021 - promised by the IRS to be deposited by November, and factored into this surgery budget - that has yet to be realized.
The “constituent liaison” for my Congresswoman is now working on that refund discrepancy, but it’ll take anywhere from three to six weeks to resolve.
So here I am, swallowing my pride, asking for help to cover my living expenses for the next six weeks. Please think of it as a “nudge in the right direction” as I reclaim my life after almost a decade. I don't ask for pity - I expect positivity.
As I’m now “cleared to resume normal activities” by my medical team, I’m picking up “side hustles” (deliveries, transport) to cover incidental expenses while I pursue gainful full-time employment - but it won’t be enough until the tax refund comes through.
If you:
A) value our friendship, whether virtual or IRL,
2) are grateful for the work I did as Betty’s caregiver, and want to honor that, or
iii) don’t want me to be exposed to the elements…
…then I humbly ask for your donation to help me in this temporary and embarrassing predicament.
Thanks in advance!
