My name is Christina. I'm in a situation right now where my four daughters and I are about to lose our home.
The last few years have been extremely rough for my family when the last few months have been even harder and have put me in a position where we are about to lose our home. At the recommendation of a very wonderful woman who heard my story , it was suggested that I create a gofundme.
4 years ago we lost my husband who was a military veteran. He had done 3 tours of Iraq and suffered from PTSD among many other things. It had been a very long 10 year battle before his death and getting the help he needed through the VA on and off and at the end we just felt very let down. Since then things have continued to be hard but have done my best to keep pushing forward for my babies.
My daughters are currently 17, 15, 13 and 4. I have worked in the IT industry for 15 years and my career has always been one constant and something I am proud of. However my last job was based in another state and had made the choice to bring everyone onsite and me living 3 hours away I was given a choice to relocate or resign. At that time there was no way I was able to make a move like that happen so I ended up leaving the company. Since then between the VA pension and the survivor benifits received I have been able to comfortably support my children while I continue my job search. The industry I work in is a competitive one and the amount of interviews I have went on in just the last 6 months is crazy. I am currently waiting on word from one of the interviews I just had but even that I would not get to start until after the holidays.
We don't live a lavish life. We have what we need and they are well taken care of but when any kind of emergency happens it definitely throws a wrench in things.. so that brings me to now. In August we moved to a new home. The deposit and first months rent were something I had To plan for knowing how expensive it was. Right after we moved I found out the engine in the new car I had bought went out and needed replaced. Luckily the warranty covered the cost of the replacement but it took 3 weeks to be done and I was left paying for a rental car that entire time. That alone on top of what was already tight made things harder. I had just started recovering from that when towards the end of October went through a medical emergency with my youngest daughter- and due to not having insurance everything came out of pocket. Because of all of the things happening I got behind on rent. I had to make choices to pay utilities and car and provide food and medication and all the things and it just put me in a horrible bind. So now I'm in a spot where I have a few days to come up with the money. I have spent the last few weeks trying to do anything I can and I'm at the point where there isn't much time left and I'm absolutely terrified.
I debated on the gofundme because of my children's privacy and 3 of them being teenagers this is horribly embarrassing.. but I also firmly believe children should be children I try very hard to not let them know what's going on with finances because I don't want to cause them any fear or stress. At this point in time I need $3500 to keep us from being homeless. I get my next payment from the VA in a few weeks so if I can get us caught back up- everything moving forward would be back on track. This is the absolute worst timing this could happen with Christmas around the corner and we will legitimately have nowhere to go. All of our family is in Florida. I have a very short time frame to get what we need. I have tried multiple times reaching out to the VA for assistance with no luck. I have tried other organizations locally and most are telling me 30 days for any decision to be made for assistance.
I hate asking for help like this but I'm hoping for a miracle. Any help anyone can provide would be so amazing and one day I would love to be able to pay it forward. My babies are the world to me so I will do anything for them I possibly can.
