Keep Camas Lacamas Watershed Clean: Halt Gas Station Plans
Donation protected
Help us Stop the Building of a Gas Station at NE 13th Street and Friberg-Strunk Road in Camas!
As the City of Camas is permitting development along its boundaries, residential neighborhoods need to be aware of plans that may impact the beautiful natural environment in our community.
Join neighbors in a land-use appeal to safeguard the watershed above Lacamas Lake. We are fundraising to receive additional funds for legal representation in court. Our group of neighbors has already filed an appeal to challenge the approval of a proposed gas station, car wash, and convenience store on NE 13th Street and Friberg-Strunk Rd., at the signal light where Goodwin Rd. crests and where the warehouse is located that we call the Great Wall of Camas.
This gas station is planned within a critical aquifer recharge area.
We believe the proposed project will result in negative impacts for the Lacamas Lake watershed, the environmentally sensitive areas within Lacamas Prairie and Lacamas Creek, and will jeopardize the safe drinking water supply of over 30 immediate neighbors who are on individual wells for their drinking water.
The project would also create major traffic disruptions and delays. It would affect commuters using Goodwin Road, school bus traffic to Union High School, and traffic to Harmony Sports Complex. Due to the topography of Goodwin Road, west-bound commuters would be forced to make sudden stops for vehicles entering the gas station, potentially resulting in crashes.
Even though our neighborhoods voiced concerns in terms of environmental impacts, the project has continued development efforts. As a result of our appeal, a court hearing has been scheduled on July 15, 2025. Any funds collected will be directed to legal representation by a law firm specializing in environmental issues. Any and all funds donated will be directed to the costs of legal representation.
Please support the effort to provide environmental safeguards and to challenge local decision-making that places the needs of a gas station before the needs of residents who have lived here for decades.
