I would like to introduce you to my step brother, Larry “Bubba” Carneal. Larry is currently in Minnesota in a medically induced coma on a ventilator due to the Delta Variant of Covid-19.
Bubba is an Army Veteran who served nearly 20 years. He served in Bosnia and Iraq. He was hit 7 times with IED’s but kept returning to active combat areas. Bubba even returned with a broken back and neck. He was “Medically released” 6 months from retirement due to the fact that he could not finish the PT test with a full pack. Due to this fact, Bubba does not have the full medical coverage insurance he would have received had he been allowed to finish out his service.
Returning to the states, Bubba served his country in a different way. He became a long haul truck driver, helping to ensure that Americans all over the country received food, building supplies and other daily needs. This career was also filled with hazards. While he loved to drive with his faithful Chihuahua, Poquito, Bubba’s road was not always easy. He had been run off the road by drivers several times and once his truck flipped over and caught on fire. Luckily, he was able to kick out the windshield and escape. However, his worst incident happened while a truck was being loaded. A forklift hit a load of pipes on the back of his flatbed, causing them to fall on him. With his skull crushed, Bubba was flown by Medevac to a local hospital. Bubba was back at work in less than a weeks time.
That is the kind of man Bubba is. Kind, loving, giving and a wicked sense of humor. Things have been going better for him and his wife, Blanch. They just purchased their first home in Texas and were getting ready to move in, when he was called again into action and make a long haul. Unfornantly, this haul brought him to an enemy that has him fighting for his life. Since October 5 when he went to the hospital, he has been transferred 2 times, the hospitals saying they didn’t have a bed for him. The last time, they flew Bubba to the Mayo Hospital in Rochester where he is currently.
While we are all praying for Bubba to wake up and start saying we are fussing too much over him, we don’t want him to wake up with a mound of medical bills he has to worry about during recovery. Blanch is in Arizona packing up their house for the move and even if she could get to Minnesota, they would not let her see him. I know that times are tough for everyone, but anything you can spare would help ease the burden. Lets show Bubba that his service to our country both in and out of the military is appreciated.
Thank you.
