The photo featured here might be difficult to understand, so allow me to explain: this is my father's livelihood after the fire department hosed it down.

I am absolutely devastated for my dad. Pony Espresso was Portland's very first food cart and has been on the road for 24 years... until today. Dad has been serving the area's best coffee through this machine. It put me through college, allowing me to have a reliable career, and it allowed him to travel the world. He and his red oval "Pony Espresso" logo have been an icon in Portland for two and a half decades. He thinks the espresso machine and the generator can be salvaged, but probably everything else is toast.

His truck caught fire and is likely totaled because it's 30+ years old. :( If any of it is covered by business insurance, it'll be some time before my dad can get back to work, since the truck will need to be rebuilt (if he chooses to do that... I think at the moment, he's in shock and is trying to decide what to do next). For now, he's just wondering how he's going to stay fed and keep the heat on this winter.

The good news is that he wasn't in the truck when it caught on fire! Please, please send whatever you can, good thoughts OR funds; it will be deeply appreciated since he'll be out of work for some time.

Two Portland news channels will be airing more information on Thursday, December 28th. Please tune into KOIN Channel 6 at 4:30p, and then KGW Channel 8 at 5p.
