Keep Brooklyn Park's Free Summer Youth Program Alive
Tax deductible
Friends of Brooklyn Park was formed in June 2017 when the Portland Parks and Recreation (PPR) eliminated the funding for our 50-year-old summer youth program. We knew if we wanted the heart of Brooklyn's summer to continue and serve the next generation of youth, we needed to organize and fund our own program. We coordinate with PPR to use the city park, and the summer program is funded by the community.
We are a community-centered, 501(c)(3) nonprofit.
WE WON'T HAVE A FREE SUMMER YOUTH PROGRAM IN OUR BROOKLYN PARK WITHOUT YOUR HELP!
Summer Program Purpose
The Brooklyn Park's Free Summer Youth Program:
- To engage youth in healthy games, activities, and crafts.
- To provide guidance and a safe place for children to learn and explore their own interests.
- To teach them the value of community.
- To take responsible care of community resources, including the park.
- To have fun and be respectful to each other.
- And most of all, to welcome and encourage participation.
All year long, the Friends of Brooklyn Park board works to secure funds for the next summer program. We thank everyone who has attended our galas and online auctions, as well as those who have donated their bottles and cans using the blue bags for bottle drop. All of this has enabled us to continue our free summer program for the past eight years. However, we are not receiving the larger grants we have relied on in the past, and we need additional funds to continue this program. Therefore, we are reaching out to our community at large in this campaign to raise funds that will enable this free summer youth program to continue.
