I’m scared of what tomorrow will bring.
My name is Brianna, and I just got the pink slip from FPL, the one that means our power could be shut off any day now without immediate payment. It's just my mom, me, and our 2 dogs in a 2-bedroom apartment. We've lived here for the past 20 years, which is my entire life. Without power, my mom, who is paralyzed from the waist down with chronic pain, has been in a wheelchair since before I was born and recently suffered a stroke along with a broken knee. We've only been able to keep the power on because of her medical equipment. We will be left in the Florida heat without AC, lights, or even the ability to keep her medical needs met.
I’ve been running a small cleaning business with my boyfriend, but our relationship is ending — and with it, my only income. My mom’s van’s transmission failed, I have no car, and no way to get to work.
On top of that, my dog Ralph, my best friend, has degenerative myelopathy. He’s now paralyzed, incontinent, and needs constant care. I clean up after him, keep him comfortable, and try to give him love every moment I can. But if the power goes out, I won’t be able to keep his space clean or safe. Our other dog Princess is now 16, and there is no way she can live in those conditions.
I’m not asking for luxuries — just for the chance to keep the lights on and the air running for my family. Even $5 can push us closer to that goal. If you can’t donate, please share this so it can reach someone who might be able to help.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for reading.
