This fundraiser has been created to honor the remarkable life and legacy of Bree Castro, whose warmth and positivity touched everyone she met. Tragically, we lost Bree to colon cancer in just a matter of weeks, and the impact of her absence is deeply felt by all who knew her. In this time of immense grief, we come together not only to remember Bree but to offer our support to the loving family she left behind. Every contribution made will help ease their burdens and keep Bree’s memory alive for those who cherished her. Let’s do everything we can to support this beautiful family as they navigate this heartbreaking journey.
All donations will go towards the following:
- Medical / Hospital bills
- Groceries, home essentials, diapers, etc.
- Car payment and car insurance
- Monthly utility bills
- rent
- Establish a savings account for Mason and Adam
This fundraiser was established by Cody and Heather Nickens in support of Bree’s husband, Eduis Castro.
The weekend of September 13th marked the beginning of what our family assumed would be a long and difficult battle. Bree had been struggling with a severe cough and at times she was experiencing shortness of breath. After a doctor’s visit and a round of antibiotics her symptoms persist. During her next doctor’s appointment it was recommended that she go to the Emergency Room. After a few tests we learned that Bree had Colon Cancer with Liver Metastasis.
Over the course of a week, Bree under went countless testings, multiple CT scans, and even had laparoscopic surgery. Her doctors performed surgery in hopes of removing a large tumor located in her colon. Unfortunately, these efforts were unsuccessful. To no one’s surprise, Bree remained hopeful and positive. She had an excellent team of doctors and a plan in place. Bree was ready to fight and was scheduled to start chemo once she had healed from surgery.
Being away from her husband and kids was difficult to say the least, but they were there visiting her any chance they had. Her sons Mason (9) and Adam (2) loved snuggling up in the hospital bed with her to enjoy whatever Disney movie was playing that night. Bree welcomed all her visitors with a smile but we all believe the four legged visitors received the biggest smiles! It brought her such joy when the therapy dogs would come and visit! After a long and exhausting seven days in the hospital, Bree was finally released. She settled into her parents' house, where she’d stay throughout her chemo treatments.
A few days later Bree ended up back in the ER due to her worsening cough. We learned her white blood cell counts were even higher than before and her liver function was continuing to decline. She had fluid in her lungs and her kidneys were failing. Bree was transferred to the ICU on Monday where she could be monitored even more closely. Still full of determination and ready to fight, Bree began chemotherapy. But within just 24 hours, her condition took a heartbreaking turn as her organ function continued to rapidly decline despite all efforts. What our family thought would be a long battle for Bree came and ended in a blink of an eye. Bree didn’t just fight her battle—she gave it everything she had and more, with a spirit that refused to give up! On September 30th, surrounded by the love of family and friends, our sweet Bree Alicia Castro peacefully left this world only to remain in our hearts forever.
