Keep BIPOC Portland Community Leader Housed
Donation protected
Tamia Deary is a community leader and activist who works tirelessly every day providing self-care resources, practitioners, education, events, and advocacy for the most vulnerable and marginalized members of the Portland community. Tamia is a black, queer, femme whose community work is nearly always unpaid. Her work and leadership in PDX Alliance for Self-Care directly serves BIPOC, immigrants, refugees, the LGBTQ2SIA+ community, and activists. Because of circumstances outside of her control, she is now in a financial bind and unable to come up with the funds alone to cover rent and transportation this month. Tamia has been caring for her grandmother who is in the process of transitioning. The added caretaking and logistics of that work is pushing her past capacity.
Now is our opportunity as a community to come together and give back to a person who has selflessly given so much. Tamia is in need of emergency funds to keep her housed and able to continue the vital and revolutionary work of PDX Alliance for Self-Care .
For over three years, Tamia's home has been the meeting place for countless Portland activists. Many of us have been fed meals lovingly prepared by Tamia in her kitchen. We have sat around her dining room table strategizing, organizing, laughing, crying, creating, venting... taking care of one another. She has opened up her home and heart to those in crisis. After securing these funds and getting back on her feet, Tamia has plans to further serve her community by opening her home to houseless black trans youth once a month so that they have a safe and sanitary place to recover from surgery.
Now is the time to step up to care for the person who makes so much possible, who gives so much of herself to her community. Countless members of the PDX community have been touched by Tamia's kindness, grace, and fierce hard work. She deserves to be taken care of and shown so much love in her time of need.
In order to stay housed and to cover transportation costs, she needs to raise at least $2,500 before the end of this month. The fundraising goal is set to $2,600 to cover gofundme's transaction fees.
Please consider donating whatever you can to support and uplift our beloved community leader, Tamia.
