Hi, I'm Mel, and I want to introduce you to my 3 year old, gorgeous nephew, Bentley, and his family.
Bentley is an incredibly happy child who was born with Waardenburg Syndrome which has primarily affected his physical development, hearing and gastro-intestinal system. He does not yet walk independently and suffers from low muscle tone. He had successful surgery to gain cochlear implants a few years ago, and just recently had to have urgent surgery to remove a blockage from his intestines. Bentley has been having frequent ear infections which have resulted in seizures and required multiple urgent surgeries for grommets on an average of every 3 months. Bentley also struggles to remove waste from his little body naturally and must take daily laxatives (even in adult doses) which may not always be effective. Despite all this, he does not let life get him down and is always smiling.
Bentley is cared for by loving parents, Joel and Nadine, who often have to travel and stay outside of their local area for drs apts, specialists visits, surgeries, and urgent care. The need for things like emergency accomodation in Brisbane, fuel costs and ongoing living expenses makes surviving in this current economic climate a challange. After Bentley's recent surgery, he will need to use a colostomy bag for the next 6-12 months, which means that Nadine will be unable to go to work to provide extra income for the family during this time due to his high care needs and also caring for Bentley's infant brother. Joel works as a long term casual employee for a local small business, but even with the income from this position, finances are tight.
We are seeking donations towards helping this young family be able to access the medical care Bentley needs with the support of his family during these difficult and stressful times.
