Hello everyone. My name is Bachir Diop. I am from Tampa, Florida, and I am currently enrolled as a first-year student at Howard University, majoring in Finance at the School of Business. I recently graduated from Berkeley Preparatory School and was eager to commence my studies at Howard University, which I consider my future academic home for the next four years. However, given that I reside in a single-parent household with my father, whose annual income is approximately $60,000, and considering that tuition exceeds $64,000 per year, my continued enrollment at Howard University faces challenges. Since my arrival, I have been actively applying for scholarships and exploring alternative means to secure financial support to remain at an institution where I feel at home. To realize my aspiration of becoming an investment banker and to capitalize on the numerous opportunities and connections that will facilitate my professional development, I seek your assistance. Currently, I will likely need to transfer to another institution, as my father and I would otherwise be burdened with over $120,000 in student loans over the course of four years. I am not requesting $120,000; rather, I am seeking an opportunity—an opportunity to do something my parents couldn’t. Obtaining a college degree at a place where I am confident I will succeed. I am looking for a sign of hope that, just maybe, for once in our lives, we do not have to dig a deeper financial hole.
Transferring also entails additional financial and psychological stress, as it would require repeating the college application process. Moreover, the transfer destination is uncertain, adding to the anxiety for my family and me. The opportunities I have already encountered here are invaluable, and I cannot afford to let them go to waste. Any donation would be immensely appreciated. Thank you for your time.
