Long story short: this AMAZING potcake was very close to being put down. She is in the process of being saved, and we need your help.
Longer story:
This is Annabelle. She lives in Nassau, Bahamas and is the most lovable, playful pup I’ve ever met. All her neighbors know her and love her, as she’s a regular on the streets and by our local beach.
But that’s also the issue. The beach has recently started attracting a tour group company which drops tourists off for the day. Many of the tourists don’t like Annabelle’s company. Annabelle doesn’t understand why trying to play with the little kids gets her screamed at and hit.
Recently a tourist reported her, and now the police are involved. They told her owners that she must be chained during the hours of 10-4pm (while the tourist groups are there), or she will be put down.
Here’s the issue: her owner either didn't chain her at all, or left her chained for 24+ hours. There was no water or food and very limited shade. When she got let off, the owner didn't put her back on for a while. Annabelle would head straight for the beach, where she was at risk of being captured and killed.
Thankfully her owner was willing to give her up, and a group of neighbors were able to get her spayed, checked out and in a temporary foster while we work out a home. The good news: she has quite a bit of interest in Canada and the States for her own loving family - somewhere she can play without fear of dying! The less-than-good news: it will be a challenge to get her there, and to continue her treatment for Heartworm.
We're asking for help to cover Annabelle's continued treatment and her travel to her new family (which is still being worked out, but will be in the US or Canada). The sooner we have confirmed funds to support her healing and travel, the closer we are to getting her out of here.
Thank you in advance for any support and help!
COMMENT: Whatever money is left over will be donated to help another Bahamian potcake. Also, Annabelle's official name is Mirabelle (I've just been calling her Annabelle for a year before I knew!)
3/8 Update: Great news to share! Mirabelle AKA Annabelle is safe at a foster's and has recovered nicely from her spay. We have a very interested adopter in New Hampshire (YAY), and have a quote for Annabelle to finish HW treatment at the adopter's local vet: $1639 - meaning we are only $40 away! I've changed our fundraising goal from $4k to $2k so we can also cover her travel costs (ticket, crate, etc.) and her health certificate/remaining vaccines to travel. Thank you soooo much for all the support. Let's get her to the finish line!
