In this picturesque seaside town, my mother and I arrived from China, welcomed by the presence of a unique establishment – my father's Chinese restaurant named Joy Luck, the sole Chinese eatery in town. This place not only symbolized our family's hard work but also encapsulated the warmth and humanity of the local community.

Joy Luck wasn't just a restaurant; it was a testament to our deep love for this land and the genuine affection we developed for the residents and customers alike. Here, we didn't just serve delicious Chinese cuisine; we provided a space for gathering, celebrating, and connecting. Every customer became a friend, and their smiles and stories added a special touch to the atmosphere of Joy Luck.

Yet, life is full of uncertainties. Over the 30-plus years of running Joy Luck, we experienced countless joys and challenges. Recently, we faced an unavoidable obstacle – the expiration of Joy Luck's lease, with no possibility of renewal due to various reasons. This meant that the restaurant that had weathered storms with us would have to close its doors.

This closure isn't just about shutting down a restaurant; it signifies the end of an era, a witness to the growth of a generation. Joy Luck wasn't just our livelihood; it was a place that accumulated stories over the years. Here, we witnessed the first dates of young couples, saw the children of residents grow up, and shared in the highs and lows of many lives.

Faced with this irreversible decision, we feel an immense sense of heartache. But to every customer who graced Joy Luck with their presence and to every resident who shared a connection with us, we want to express our gratitude. Thank you for being a part of this journey, for making Joy Luck a special presence in this small town. We will forever cherish the memories, the smiles, and the greetings.

Even though Joy Luck is closing, our hearts will remain in this beautiful town. We hope that in the days to come, we may meet again.
