“Kūlia i ka nuʻu” ️
— Meaning to strive for the summit.
When I first arrived in Hawaiʻi to begin pharmacy school, this was one of the first Hawaiian phrases I heard. It means to push forward, to aim high, and never give up on reaching your goals a message that has stayed with me every step of the way.
“E hoʻomau i ka hana”.
— Persevere in your work.
This quote reminds me to keep going even through difficult times. It’s a reminder that progress takes strength, patience, and heart in the values I hold onto as I continue this journey.
Hi everyone, my name is Alyysa Joy, and I’m originally from San Diego, California. I’m currently pursuing my dream of becoming a pharmacist and have just completed my first year of pharmacy school here in Hawaiʻi.
Moving across the ocean to a new state was a big leap of faith and exciting, but also incredibly challenging. Being far from home and away from my family and support system has made this journey difficult emotionally, mentally, and financially.
Despite applying for scholarships and taking out student loans, the cost of tuition, books, housing, transportation, and other essentials has continued to grow. I’m doing everything I can to stay afloat, but I’ve reached a point where I need help to continue.
I’m asking for support from friends, family, and anyone who believes in lifting up future healthcare professionals. Your donation, no matter the amount, will directly help me with:
Tuition and school-related expenses
Housing and daily living costs
A reliable car to get to class, clinical rotations, and essential errands
Pharmacy school is rigorous, but I’m passionate about helping others and determined to make a difference in my community. Your support will help me stay focused on my education and keep moving toward my goal of becoming a pharmacist.
If you’re not able to donate at this time, I’d be so grateful if you could share my story. Every bit of support in any form brings me closer to continuing this path.
Mahalo nui loa (thank you so much) for believing in me.
With gratitude,
Alyysa Joy
