As a long-term tenant at the Ballan Neighbourhood House. Every day, I have the privilege of seeing first-hand the incredible work that happens within these walls. This building is so much more than just a place to work; it’s the beating heart of our community.
But right now, this beloved community hub is facing a serious threat that is literally hanging over our heads. The roof that protects this vital community space is having trouble holding itself up, and needs to be repaired.
What is the Ballan Neighbourhood House?
For over 30 years, the Ballan Neighbourhood House (BNH) has been a cornerstone of our town. It's a place that brings people together to connect, learn, and support one another. It's where the best work happens to prevent social isolation and improve mental health.
This isn't just one organisation – it’s a bustling hub that houses essential services for everyone in Ballan and the surrounding district: Some of these include ..
- MECWA Care provides free health checks and runs community meals for our seniors.
- The Studio Ballan offers yoga, Pilates, and wellness classes for our physical and mental health.
- The Food Bank provides much needed relief for those in the community in need
- AXIS and APM Employment services help people find stable and meaningful work.
- AND It's a space for art, recreation, children's activities, and a resilience hub during local emergencies.
This beautiful 1800s public hall is a key community space, hosting countless events and gatherings that have created memories for generations.
The Problem they are Facing
An old building comes with charm, but it also comes with challenges. The roof has reached the end of its life. Leaks are becoming a serious issue, threatening to cause major damage to the historic structure, the facilities, and the precious community resources inside.
