Keep a PTSD & Domestic Abuse Survivor Off th Stree
Donation protected
My name is Cas, and I've been affectionately dubbed "Rocky" by my loved ones - a testament to my unwavering spirit and ability to rebound. As a survivor of PTSD, domestic abuse, and suicidal ideation, I've fought hard to overcome many circumstances in life, least of all these mental health hurdles. Roci is my service dog and the reason I was able to move forward in life.
Earlier this year, in a bid to find healing and peace, Roci and I embarked on a van life adventure. We made the most of our disabled circumstances, embracing the freedom and serenity of the open road. The van life offered us a more affordable living solution, as I could not afford to maintain a traditional living situation in Utah on my disability income alone.
Since then, we've faced a perfect storm of unexpected challenges that have threatened to derail our journey. I've been met with a cascade of daunting medical and automotive issues that have strained my finances beyond my means.
The major medical issue is a failing knee replacement that requires an arthroscopic procedure to address subsidence - a condition where the replacement joint has gradually sunk into the surrounding bone. Without this corrective surgery, I'm unable to walk without crutches, severely limiting my mobility and making it difficult for Roci and I to continue our nomadic lifestyle. Being able to walk again is crucial for regaining my independence.
Compounding this, I've been dealing with a litany of car troubles - transmission problems, a persistent parasitic power draw that has drained my new battery even after a new alternator was installed, and now, leaking head gaskets in a failing engine. My living situation is hanging by a thread, as my vehicle is on the verge of breaking down completely. Roci and I are facing imminent homelessness in San Diego - a terrifying and preventable prospect, especially as I long to reunite with my children back in Utah, whom I haven't seen since February.
Normally, my disability income would cover my basic expenses, including Roci's care. But these unexpected challenges have pushed me to the brink. I'm reaching out to my community for support to secure a reliable, mechanically sound vehicle that can accommodate my mobility needs and Roci's, as well as assistance with the cost of my surgery and recovery.
I'm not asking for pity, but for the opportunity to keep moving forward and sharing our light with the world. Every dollar donated will help get Roci and I back on the road, closer to our dreams of visiting national parks and reuniting with my children.
Thank you for your consideration and support. You are saving a life with your donation.
Sincerely,
Cas
