Keep a mom alive! Ashley Buenrostro

I was certain that Lupus was going to kill my best friend last week. After a Facetime call on Sunday, 27 September, and two hospital visits in Denver, I was convinced. I had watched her body deteriorate over the course of 9 months and felt totally helpless about it. I had seen firsthand how an autoimmune disease can ravage the body and mind of a seemingly healthy person, ripping her away from her normal daily activities, and stealing her ability to be a functioning mother, wife, and friend.
I met Ashley years ago when our boys were in Kindergarten. She often reminds me, "because of them, there's us." We quickly became buds and spent every morning at the gym together, helped each other with childcare/pickups from school, had family get togethers/birthdays, and even had a girl's trip to Vegas! For part of this time, she was a single mom, managing and juggling so much. Ashley is a person who NEVER gave up and put the needs of her son (now sons and husband), before the needs of her own. She has always been a dedicated and active participant in her life, never allowing herself to fall behind. She managed to raise a family, earn a post-secondary degree as a court reporter, keep a gym routine, and caretake for her dogs, all the while, silently suffering in pain from Lupus. In this time, she also lost her mother and grandmother and even though it was more than difficult, she never gave up.
This disease is real. She went from a person who never stopped to a person who needed more rest. She went from daily intense workouts at the gym (6 days per week) to a person who struggled to walk her sons and dogs around the block. This disease is real. She went from lifting heavy weights to barely being able to stand without help. This disease is real. She went from eating a healthy diet to barely being able to eat. She went from being the caretaker to having others care for her. This disease is real.
After being transported via ambulance on 23 September 2020, for nearly having a stroke (blood p - 200/100 approx.), Ashley received two blood transfusions, chemotherapy treatments, and a biopsy on her kidney, over the course of her 13 day hospital stay. Her kidneys are still not functioning properly and she has literally been clinging to life. Her team at UC Health in Denver has determined that she will need to have 6 Cytoxan infusions, over the next six months. She will have to see her Rheumatologist frequently and will take time to travel to Denver for her treatments and visits.
Ashley, like too many Americans, DOES NOT HAVE MEDICAL INSURANCE. Her family makes too much $ for free medical insurance options and makes too little to afford those provided privately. She has accrued thousands in medical bills from her recent visit, and her Cytoxan treatments will cost upwards of $18,000, in addition to regular checkups costs and cost of travel.
SHE NEEDS OUR HELP! Many of you have asked me privately, how you can help her. Well, I will tell you now, you can donate! Instead of buying her flowers or making your daily Dutch Bros/Starbucks visit, please consider donating to keep a mother, wife and friend alive. She has not asked for much help in this life and is by far, one of the strongest, most independent people I know. In fact, she didn't even want me to make this page for her, but after a little convincing, she agreed :)
Please contact me if you have any questions regarding her treatment, I would be happy to share what she has given consent for me to share. God bless you!
