Hi, my name is Keira, and I am not one to ask for help but due to hospital appointments and missing work and the financial stress since my son was born and needing to have a 3 month NICU stay which has lead to ongoing costs. i am making this go fund me. I am the proud parent of a beautiful little boy, Keenan, who has already endured more in his short life than most people face in a lifetime. He is turning 2 on November 15th, and our greatest wish is to give him the gift of a golden retriever puppy, who will be trained as his service dog to support him with independence, navigation, and safety.

Keenan was born intrauterine growth restricted (IUGR) and at just 5 days old, he underwent emergency surgery for appendicitis. Only 5 days later, he needed another surgery for necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC), and just 5 days after that, yet another emergency surgery for a second case of NEC. We are so extremely lucky to still have our baby with us. These operations led to him living with a stoma for 7 months, and he still faces more procedures ahead.

On top of this, Keenan was diagnosed with septo-optic dysplasia, leaving him blind. This condition also causes adrenal insufficiency and hypoglycaemia, which can be life-threatening. He requires daily hormone replacement therapy, including hydrocortisone and thyroxine, and has to endure a daily injection to stay healthy and safe.

Despite everything, he is the most joyful, resilient, and loving child — full of curiosity and determination. We want to give him the chance to grow up with greater independence, safety, and companionship through a specially trained service dog.

A golden retriever puppy, with proper training, could:

• Guide and support him as he learns to navigate the world without sight

• Provide comfort during stressful medical procedures and hospital stays

• Offer stability and security during episodes of adrenal crisis or low blood sugar

• Be a loyal friend who gives him love, confidence, and reassurance every day

The costs of purchasing a healthy puppy, vet care, and the specialized service dog training are far beyond what our family can manage alone. That’s why we are asking for help.
