Let’s Help Keenan & his Road to Recovery

 Hafa Adai Family and Friends:

I’m writing this on behalf of my sister, Christine who has endured so much already in 2024 and to add to what is going on currently with her son, Keenan. She is a single mother of 10 kids, independent, and trying to make all ends meet for her kids. She may not have it all but she tries her best for all her kids and that’s what matters.

On February 15, Keenan, who is 4 years old and a twin was his normal self throughout the day, and it wasn’t until later that evening, when his brother Keziah noticed him on the bed, drooling and shaking. Keziah who is 9, did not know that he was having a seizure, so he immeditely called his mommy to come and check what was going on. She carried him and ran to the nearest fire station near her home to have him get checked and from there was immediately rushed to Naval Base Hospital on Guam. His seizure lasted for awhile and was given some medication to calm it down by the hospital staff. A lumbar puncture was conducted to collect a sample to ensure that the infection was not in his brain and spine that was causing him to have a seizure. It was later discovered that there was fluids in his brain and due to that his heart rate was not normal. After a couple hours he was stabilized.

February 16, he was later transported to Guam Memorial Hospital to be admitted since there was no Pediatric Neurologist available at the Naval Base Hospital and is currently being treated. Keenan is still sedated in ICU and getting the medications he needs while the hospital staff is determining the cause of his seizure and extract any fluids that is in his brain.

A little side story, Keenan and his twin Keoni were both born prematurely at 7 months. They were in the NICU for a couple months before they were able to go home and be with their other siblings. They both until this age is unable to walk and is similar in their developmental stages and need special care in which resources in Guam are very limited.

While having to be by Keenan side, it is putting a financial burden on her family and we’re asking for any assistance you are able to give. Every donation, no matter how small is greatly appreciated. Your kindness and support would make all the difference in the world.

Also, a simple prayer for Keenan, Christine and her family and a share of this story goes a long way.

Together with my family, we’re praying that he gets better, see them grow and fulfill their dreams.

We thank you for taking the time to read this story and will keep you updated on the progress and recovery for Keenan.

Thank you, Si’yu’us ma’ase and Maraming Salamat Po.
