Keely's Cancer Help Fund

Donation protected

Dear Friends,

My dear sweet friend Keely needs some help in at this stage in her struggle with cancer.  In September 2020 she contracted pneumonia and wasn't getting better. When she went in for a lung scan they found tumors in both lungs and she was diagnosed with Stage 2 lung cancer. This is the same kind of cancer that killed her dad last year, so aggressive treatment was needed.

Keely was able to start chemo right away, but then had a couple of extremely serious episodes with her lungs filling up with fluid, and ended up having emergency surgery in October 2020. She coded twice on the operating table, and was in an induced coma afterwards for several weeks.

Shortly after being brought out of the induced coma, she contracted COVID-19 from either the hospital or the transport service. She had to be re-intubated and was back in the hospital for two weeks. It was a terrifying time for her and those of us supporting her.

Amazingly, she pulled through and survived COVID, but while she was off the chemo, her tumors started growing again. She is currently on a new and aggressive chemo that seems to be helping, but struggles constantly with life-threatening blot clots and memory problems as a result of the COVID infection.

As you can imagine, all of this is astronomically expensive, and while she was able to get onto Medicaid, it definitely doesn't cover everything. Currently she is too ill to work, and has a nine-year-old son at home with her also. Money is a constant concern, from keeping rent paid to paying the medical costs that Medicaid doesn't.

As the leader of her small support team and her primary contact, I see every day the extreme stress that this situation causes her. I am hoping to raise enough to cover her rent for the next year, and give her some meaningful assistance with the never-ending medical bills. I believe we can do this for her, and in memory of her dad, who was her best friend and closest confidant.

Your help is deeply appreciated. You are making life tangibly and immediately better for both her and her son.

Love,
Erika
