Keelan , The Man, The Myth, The Legend

This kid here has had quite the week and so have his parents! After feeling sick on Monday, September 2nd, he went to the ER on Tuesday evening, his glucose reading skyrocketed because of a virus he developed. They began treatment for dehydration and DKA (Diabetic Ketoacidosis). After becoming very lethargic, Keelan was air lifted by helicopter to a pediatric hospital.. At that time the doctors advised the family to be prepared for the worst. He lost consciousness and became unresponsive in ICU for a couple of days due to his brain swelling from the DKA and the virus.

Keelan has Type 1 diabetes, but has adapted like a champ to his life as a diabetic. He has overall been a healthy kid who was put into this unstable situation. Both his parents, Chad and Dawn, have not left his side since this began.  They have lost wages not being able to work, having to focus solely on the care of their son and getting him better. At this time Keelan is being treated by his team of doctors for some problems they have yet to find an answer for. 

As of September 10th Keelan has been moved out of ICU and had another MRI and a spinal tap. This test has ruled out spinal meningitis. They suspect he may have Acute Disseminated Encephalomyelitis, which is an autoimmune disease that attacks certain areas of the brain. At this time Keelan is having trouble with his speech, eyesight, and consciousness and also some loss of mobility on his right side. They will be treating him with immune molecule globin which could take 3-5 days before they see any results. 

We are posting this page because so many people have asked what they can do and how they can help. The funds from this page will go directly to the family to help with whatever they need pertaining to Keelan's recovery. They are looking at multiple types of therapy in the future and tons of medical bills.
