Keela Emergency Surgery

Hi, my name is Jana. On October 28, the woman who hit our family dog with her car, checked to see if there was any damage to bumper, and drove off changed our lives forever.
In the evening, our family celebrated Halloween. The grandkids kids carved pumpkins, admired the way the battery powered tea lights lit up their scary faces, and popped way too much popcorn to get ready for The Nightmare Before Christmas.
At 930, we let our dogs out to go to the bathroom and that’s when we heard yelping.. two of our three dogs came inside and we felt our hearts racing. Me and my daughter rushed outside and saw a red SUV stopped at the end of the driveway and we knew..
But where was Keela? A woman got out of her car, walked around the front and inspected the bumper for front end damage and we yelled, “don’t go anywhere!” She sped off.
We couldn’t find Keela, who had just been hit by a car in a 55 MPH zone. We searched for more than 30 minutes before finding her huddled under the porch, panting and unable to walk.
She couldn’t crawl out on her own. My daughter used a sawzall to cut our deck so we could get her and rush her to the emergency vet clinic.
At first, the vet gave us a good prognosis when x-rays showed she “only” had a fractured pelvis and transferred us to the Veterinary Specialty and Emergency Center in Pittsburgh.
Their doctors found that the injuries Keela sustained were more intensive than originally thought.
Pneumothorax (a collapsed lung) which may require a chest tube and surgery, as air filled her chest and she gasped for air. X-rays showed that addition to her collapsed lung, her pelvis is broken in three places.
.. And the woman only stopped to check if her car was damaged.
The vet clinic is requiring a $10,000 deposit to save Keela’s life and is estimating her surgeries and ICU care may cost as much as $20,000. I don’t know about you, but my daughter and her husband certainly don’t have $10,000 to save their beloved family member, and I’m asking for your help.
Let me tell you about Keela.
While serving in the Army at Fort Leonardwood Missouri last year, my daughter adopted a puppy for her husband (my son-in-law); an Anatolian Shepard who they named Keela. She drove 13 hours to bring his dream dog home and Keela is an incredible dog.
She watches over their chicken flock, she guards and protects their children, and she lets us know how much she loves us by leaving her extra long fur in heaps everywhere she goes.
My daughter and son-in-law are both veterans and police officers who selflessly serve their community every single day, and they need your help. Keela needs your help.
Keela is only 1.5 years old and her life isn’t over.. not yet. We’re not ready to say goodbye.
Please share our post and consider donating, anything no matter how small is life changing for me and for them.
