Keegan's "Go Global" Education Exchange in Chile

Hi, I'm Keegan Storrs (but my students all call me Profe), and I'm the 2022 Burroughs Wellcome Fund North Carolina Charter School Teacher of the Year (CSTOY).

As the CSTOY, I've been a part of the 2022 NC Teacher of the Year team, which has given me all kinds of opportunities to find, highlight, and celebrate the incredible accomplishments of the educators that work on behalf of the 1.5 million NC students, from the mountains to the coast.

This summer, our team of amazing teachers is planning to travel to Chile on a 12-day immersive experience, where we will be able to learn from the outstanding teaching practices currently in use in the Chilean public school system (particularly related to science, technology, engineering, math, and sustainability). We will network and dialogue with educators from around the country to share the challenges, growth, and opportunities that unite us as global educators.

While many of the members of our TOY team are receiving funding from their educational districts, I have not been able to secure funding for this trip through these more traditional paths, as charter schools in North Carolina do not operate under a district system, leaving me to fundraise the entire trip cost on my own.
