Our family adopted Keebler July 10th 2020. We drove over 16 hours to Oklahoma one way to get him. He was the biggest, cutest 9 week old puppy and I couldn’t wait to get him back to ND and into our home! We headed back on our 16 hour journey. Keebler was such a great passenger. When we arrived back in Mandan, I took Keebler home to meet his new family. Everyone got along great and we were so happy. That night I thought something may have been off with Keebler because he kept running into the walls and was almost acting like he was blind, but then I thought maybe it was just from the long drive and being in a vehicle for so long. This behavior continued into the next day, so we called and consulted with our vet and scheduled an appointment for July 15th. Keebler did have reflexes in his eyes, so we didn’t think he was blind. On July 25th, Keebler had his first “fall”. He was walking across our floor and his legs slipped out from underneath him and down he went. He was 11 weeks old and this was terrifying for all of us. He couldn’t get up and we had to lift him up. From there, things only got worse.. On August 12th I came home from work to find Keebler down again. He was covered in saliva and his own urine. His chest felt flat. I was instantly in tears and called the vet and rushed him over. The vet did an exam and X-rays, but nothing showed up out of the ordinary, so we sent the X-rays to a radiologist to look at, which also came back normal. We couldn’t figure out what was wrong, so they sent us home with pain meds and muscle relaxers, which seemed to be helping, or so we thought, until September 16th came. I came home from work and there he was, down again. This time it was worse than ever before. My floors were covered in blood, he had raw open wounds all over his body, so off to the vet we went again. He was tested for distemper, which came back negative, so he was sent home with more pain meds and antibiotics. A week later, he developed an infection in his joint, which triggered another vet visit. After that, we thought things were getting better again, but they weren’t. We were literally calling and consulting with a vet or going to appointments like crazy to try to figure out what is wrong. On November 7th the vet ran more bloodwork and on November 16th he tested positive for Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, which we treated. He was still having falling episodes 3-4 times a day, so we tried a lift harness, boots, sticky paw pads, and grippy socks, but he’s still having episodes. On Friday 1/29, he went down again which triggered another emergency visit. He’s covered in open wounds, so he’s on an antibiotic again. The vets decided the best thing would be an MRI. We have an appointment scheduled for February 23rd at Blue Pearl in MN. It is $199 for the consult. They’re hoping if he needs an MRI, they will be able to do it that same day which can range from $3500-$4500. Keebler and I will head out the night before and stay in a hotel before his appointment. We’re so hoping to get answers and be able to help Keebler. This poor guy has been through so much in his short life and we just want him better. If you can help us help him, we would appreciate it so much!!
