Hello everyone! My name is Lupe Arceo de Carpintero. I am reaching out to you because Diana, her husband Todd, and their son Keaton Scoles need our help to overcome their current hurdle. My love for the Scoles family is deep and my heart told me to help them so I created this GoFundMe page on their behalf.
I have known Diana since 2002. We were co-workers, and I saw what a hard worker she was. She is the type of person that puts her whole heart into everything she does, especially when it comes to her son. She eventually moved to California, where she met her husband, Todd Scoles. In 2010 Diana and Todd had a beautiful son named Keaton Legend.
Watching Keaton grow has been nothing short of a miracle. That is because Keaton was born with hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS). In other words, he was born with half a heart. Since the left side of his heart was underdeveloped, his heart could not pump oxygenated blood throughout his body. He had 3 major heart surgeries since birth, his first when he was 6 days old. Because of his medical condition and surgeries, he spent many months in the hospital, which led to developmental delays.
As Keaton got older, they discovered that he was on the autistic spectrum. Unfortunately, he is non-verbal and has difficulty communicating. Still, his parents have always been able to understand his needs and wants. He was also diagnosed with physical and cognitive delays. Keaton's parent's love never wavered, but instead, it made them stronger. They are his love, angels, protectors, teachers, his best friends, his voice, and his advocates.
Diana and Todd have dedicated their lives to provide for Keaton since day one.
Todd has worked hard to provide food, shelter, and other necessities to the family. His mom became a stay-at-home-mom to give him all the medical care he needs and the unconditional love that only a parent can provide. Through medical assistance, he received physical, occupational, and speech therapy. Although there were some medical expenses, they were always able to meet his needs.
When his health allowed him to, Keaton attended school, and when he could not attend classes, his mom would home-school him. He loves his movies, books, his tablet, and his swing. Boy! Does he love his swing!!! His parents built one inside the house. He also loves to be his mom's helper while she creates her videos for her Tupperware customers.
Earlier this year, the Scoles family moved to WI because of the outstanding pediatrics cardiac program at the children's hospital. As many of you may know, it has been challenging to find employment in the past year and a half due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but their move was necessary. Unfortunately, Todd had difficulty finding jobs in WI but as some would say, "things happen for a reason." After a couple of months in WI, Todd's father, who lives in MO, was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. His mother, who also has several medical problems, including being legally blind, could not take care of her husband. Todd decided to go to MO and stay with his parents to help with transportation and tend to his father. Since he is dedicating his time to his parents, Todd is unable to work currently.
Diana and Keaton decided to remain in WI because of his medical needs and the medical assistance he is receiving from the state. Currently, he sees his doctors every 6 months to evaluate his heart's function. Once they meet Keaton’s transplant team, this fall, his appointments will be every 3 months. He will need constant medical care his entire life. It has been difficult living separately, but they are doing so because the family members they love and are caring for want/need to stay where they call home.
The Scoles family has no income coming in except for what Diana earns from Tupperware, which goes directly to her car payment. Diana has tried raising money by running garage sales, but the weather has not been cooperating, and was only able to raise $60. It is also challenging to run a garage sale since she also needs to care for and watch Keaton while simultaneously running her Tupperware business. They cannot lose their vehicle since they need a reliable and safe mode of transportation.
Some may wonder why they do not just get a job and have a caregiver for Keaton and Todd's parents. As a fellow caregiver of both of my elderly parents and two siblings, who have cognitive and physical disabilities, I understand the need to be their caregiver. I feel that no one would provide the unconditional love and support they need. Although it can be stressful taking care of family, it is much worse when others are the caregivers.
I have known Diana long enough to know when she is worried, so I reached out to her. THEY NEED OUR HELP! I hope we can gather money to help them with rent, utilities, Keaton's pull-ups, bed mats, wipes, and other necessities for at least 6 months. Their monthly expenses come to $2,190, which would amount to a total of $13,140.
Any amount you can donate is much appreciated! Truly it is!!! If you are not able to donate money, please help by sharing this page with your friends and family. But more importantly, keep them in your prayers and good thoughts.
As Keaton's biggest fan I thank you from the bottom of my heart!
