Keaghan's Heart Journey

Donation protected
Hello family and friends. As you all know, we've been on a medical journey with Keaghan for the past few years. Starting in 2023, after passing out at work, we accidentally found out that Keaghan was born with a defective heart valve and we discovered he had an aortic aneurysm. It's been a rollercoaster, to say the least.

Keaghan's mom, Malia, has worked tirelessly to find the best doctors, get the tests and insights we needed, and get us to where we needed to be. This led us to Cleveland, Ohio, at the Cleveland Clinic this August 2025.

The cardiothoracic surgeons were just supposed to do an intake and scans on Keaghan during this visit, but after extensive testing and review, they advised immediate surgery to fix his aneurysm which was larger than they anticipated. This being said, he underwent emergency open-heart surgery consisting of an aortic aneurysm valve repair on top of the aortic aneurysm repair, they discovered additional defects when inside of his heart. This was a bigger surgery than we anticipated consisting of a PFO (hole in the heart) and reconstruction of his heart valve.

This led us to all rush up to Cleveland to be with him and start this last leg of the journey.

The surgery went beyond amazingly, and we are forever grateful for the medical professionals at the Cleveland Clinic for their kindness and compassion towards us all, and the in-depth medical care they provided.

But what comes with top-of-the-line medical care are medical costs that match.

Keaghan spent 8 hours in surgery, 3 days in ICU, and 4 days in the cardiac unit.

We are now home healing and just getting back on our feet amongst the day-to-day chaos of being parents, but the debt and financial hardship is what we are left with. Although Keaghan's health and longevity is what matters most, from the emergency airfare costs to lodging and food, to the medical bills uncovered by insurance, the whole family has exhausted funds to cover these last-minute expenses we just weren't ready to have.

We come to you to ask for generosity and compassion towards us. If you know Keaghan, he is the hardest worker who provides for all of his family, and if you met him, you know he'd give the shirt off his back to help even if he didn't have another. He will be unable to work for 6 months, have to revisit Cleveland for follow ups a few times in the late year. His healing will be a slow but steady process.

If all you can do is give this a share or say a little prayer for our family, that is beyond generous.

Mahalo to all for keeping us in your prayers and thoughts through this life-changing journey.

With love,
The Gomes/Gouveia Ohana
