Help Kayla & Family during Cancer treatment

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Marlene Diaz, mother of Kayla Diaz.
Kayla is such a sweet, humble, kind, and smart girl. She's the best older sister, dedicated to having straight A’s, and hoping to go to law school or become a doctor/surgeon. She's also a huge Dodger fan, gamer, and loves playing her trumpet in her spare time. She hopes to go back to school to perform again. She just had a birthday and turned 17 on 2/4 a couple of weeks ago. All she wants to do is go back to school after leaving during 10th grade for a year and a half due to her second battle with cancer. She attended San Pedro High School and played in the band, and now is homeschooled due to the circumstances. Just when she was going to start going to school in person again since she was in remission for about 7 months now.

Unfortunately, I got a call recently on 2/19/25 from her hematology/oncology doctor letting me know that they looked at the scans that Kayla did last week, and it shows a new tumor on the same site as her previous cancer that she just beat. The doctor thinks it’s the same cancer that has returned. That news was hard to swallow and broke me and all my family, especially my daughter. We then had to take her the next early morning to get a PET CT scan to see if there are any live cancer cells that exist. Today, 2/21/25, at her appointment this morning, they gave us the devastating news that there are cancer cells in the tumor and that she will need a biopsy next week to see what kind of cancer it is. After that, we need to come up with a plan for chemo or possible radiation, and she needs another port for access on her chest. The third time having cancer is harder and harder to cure, and I’m willing to find other alternatives, including holistic doctors near or out of state, but it won’t be through our insurance but out of pocket. I know Kayla is a fighter and strong, but I need to find what’s best for her and look into second opinions, including all alternatives. I will close my hair salon to devote more time to my daughter. I’ve had my salon when she went through the last cancer treatments, and it was very hard to work and still having to pay rent weekly at the studio I’m renting and be with my daughter full-time for chemo treatments, which made it almost impossible to do both and still care for my other 3 younger kids. I will use this GoFundMe to take time from work and get everything Kayla needs.
Please pray for my beautiful, strong daughter to beat this cancer and have a future without cancer.
Thank you to all the prayers, donations, and those reaching out. No matter what, God is good.

Back story…

My daughter Kayla was in remission from cancer for about 7 months now after having a successful outcome from chemo and getting a big surgery almost a year ago, 2/2024, to remove the tumor and half of her pelvis, leaving her unable to walk and relearn how to walk. She was able to walk and gain strength with a lot of physical therapy.

Kayla was diagnosed with Ewing sarcoma cancer at age 10 and went through chemo and radiation, beating that cancer in 2019.

Kayla got diagnosed with osteosarcoma cancer at age 15 and had a successful surgery and chemotherapy, finishing in 7/2024.

Kayla has had 2 previous GoFundMe campaigns due to cancer, and it explains all the surgeries she’s had to have and all the scary toxicities she’s gone through, all the side effects of chemo, and all the hospitalizations.
