Help Antonio Recover

Antonio Gomez is a wonderful man and a member of the extended SF Public Defender family, as well as many other communities. He has helped build and repair many of our homes over the years. Now he needs our help.

On July 4th, Antonio was waiting in line at a taco truck on International and 42nd in Oakland when he collapsed in a pool of blood, a stray bullet lodged in his skull. No one even knew why he fell until police found the gunshot wound in his head.

Antonio was in critical condition and in a coma for weeks. He has had multiple surgeries. He is still in the hospital 7 weeks later, and remains paralyzed on one side of his body. He is communicating a bit but we don't know if he'll ever be able to walk again, let alone work, and we have no idea how his family will afford to care for him.

Antonio has been in the US for 26 years. He sponsored his brothers, trained them in construction, employed them, and helped them make a life here. He supports his wife Margarita and three children in Guatemala.

We are raising funds to support Antonio's family, pay his medical bills, assist in his rehab, and help his mom and wife come to Oakland to care for him. Any help is deeply appreciated.
