I am creating this page for one of the strongest teenage girls that I know. In fourteen short years she has overcome obstacles, endured hardships, and allowed her circumstances to mold her into the artistic, creative young woman that she is. Her name is Elisa Mae Scroggins.
On January 15th, 2015, Elisa fell from her 40 ft. balcony and severed her spinal cord. Her life changed in an instant. She immediately lost the ability to feel or move anything from her upper torso down. In a moment, her plans for the future were rewritten.
The tremendous impact of what this really means is just now beginning to settle into the minds of Elisa and our family. It will be necessary for her, her mom, and her brother to move right away into barrier free house that will accommodate a wheelchair. They will have to purchase a new vehicle. There will be future medical expenses, supplies, and equipment. These are just a few of the things that this single income family will be faced with by the time they leave the hospital.
As a family we have rallied together, and we are facing the long, hard journey ahead with high spirits and determination. We are doing our best to help in every way, but have reached the realization that we are going to need help beyond what we can provide. It is a vulnerable feeling to put our story out there, to express our needs to both friends and strangers, but our love for Elisa overcomes this vulnerability.
Thank you for taking the time to read about Elisa’s journey so far, and the place we are all in today. Thank you in advance for any help you can offer, monetarily, in donation, or in prayer. It is so difficult to set a fundraising goal, because at this time the need seems so open-ended, but please know that each and every contribution, no matter the size, will be very humbly appreciated.
Please know our hearts are filled with gratitude, whether we know you personally, or in spirit, for helping us to bring Elisa home.
