Update on mom 11/29

Another update on mom!

So thankful for the process mom is making. Mom’s leg is healing nicely. Praise God! Her wound vac was removed Wednesday and her drains will be removed in the next day or so. During our visit today she was able to sit on the edge of the bed and transfer into a recliner. Mom is getting stronger by the day.

She will be transferred to a faculty for rehab soon, not 100% which one yet. We are ready to have her back closer to home.

Thank you all for the continued love and support. It means the world to us and mom is so grateful for all the kind words, prayers, and donations.

Update on mom 11/21

Wednesday night mom was transferred by ambulance to Barnes Jewish Hospital. Yesterday they spent the day running tests and getting up to speed on mom’s condition.

Today the plan was for mom to go have a wash-out done of her leg. This has been done several times already at Carle to help with infection and healing. My step dad got a call from the hospital not long ago. While the plan was to do just a wash-out, the reconstructive surgeon actually went ahead with the surgrey mom needed.

He was able to use muscle and close her leg, only taking the amputation a little farther up. As of right now, mom will have to stay in STL for a short time to make sure her leg is healing but then she will be able to come back closer to home for inpatient physical therapy. All we do now is wait and pray that mom’s leg heals and there are no further complications.

Thank you all for the prayers, messages, donations, and support. Our family has never felt more loved and supported than we do right now!

Please continue to prayer for healing. Mom is strong and she will get through this!

After talking to mom tonight she has given me permission to go into detail about her accident and her injuries. First off let me say on behalf of our family we thank every single one of you for your prayers, messages, gifts, donations, and so much more. The suppprt and love we have felt these past 4 weeks have been overwhelming!

On Sunday October 20th my mom and step dad went for a motorcycle ride like they often do when the weather is nice. My mom loves riding her bike and will always take advantage of a beautiful day! While out riding a man ran a stop sign and hit mom on her left side. It is believed by law enforcement that he was traveling over 60 mph. As a result of the impact mom was flown 50ish feet into a harvested corn field. My step dad, Tim saw it happen and stayed with my mom until first responders arrived. Mom had to be revived at the scene and was immediately airlifted to Carle since it is a Trauma 1 hospital. Once at Carle it was decided that she could not wait for imaging so she was taken into surgrey upon arrival. Mom had lost a lot of blood and had to receive a transfusion. They did an exploratory surgrey of her abdomen where they found internal bleeding resulting from her spleen being damaged and it was removed. Her left leg was badly injuried, mangled was actually the word used by the surgeon. The surgeon decided that it was either mom’s life or her leg. So they made the decision to amputate mom’s leg above the knee.

Fast forward to after some tests and imaging were done it was determined that mom had 2 spinal fractures her T10 & T11 and 5 brain bleeds. Mom has battled with sepsis, brain damage, and a deep vein thrombosis. We are thankful mom was wearing her helmet and that her brain will heal over time.

Yesterday we learned that mom’s leg is not healing and her femur is becoming infected due to them not being able to close her leg because of the tissue damage. Because mom’s leg was injuried so severally they are going to need to go up further on the amputation. Unfortunately this is not something the surgeon at Carle is comfortable doing so mom is being transported to Barnes-Jewish hospital in St. Louis. Mom will be transported as soon as Barnes says they have a bed for her.

I will update when she is transferred so that cards and gifts can be sent to her there. And I don’t mean to sound like a broken record but with this transfer comes even more of a financially burden for my mom and step dad. If you can help at all we would all be so thankful. I am sharing the Go fund me account as well as my mom’s vemno in the comments.

Thank you all for your continued prayers and support. And thank you so much for being patient with your questions, I am trying to answer everyone back as quickly as I can. It just gets overwhelming.
