In a shooting recently in Syracuse, NY, a man stepped up to the job of saving those around them. If you want to talk about RAK's, this is one of epic proportions.
Lawrence Gabriel with help from his cousin, Joshua Kennedy, took part in protecting family, friends and strangers at McAvan's Pub in Tipperary Hill, New York. Morris, a parolee recently released from prison, ordered his ex-girlfriend at gunpoint to bring him to McAvan's, where her family was celebrating a birthday party. After arriving, he fired a gun into a crowd of innocent patrons at the bar. Without regard to their own safety, Lawrence attempted to disarm the shooter and in the process was shot multiple times. Others were also injured. Jake Palmer, Rich Lighton, Douglas Spossey and Lawrence are all in the hospital still as of the 4th. Joshua and Douglas were released from the hospital as of earlier this week.
The road to recovery will be long for these men and will include substantial time in both the hospital and rehab. This will take them away from work, and will force their families and loved ones to make significant sacrifices of their own.
Lawrence, the main hero of the story, had recently signed a boxing contract, one he had worked his whole life to achieve, and it is unclear at this time whether he will be able to fight again. He has two young children, a 5 month old and a 6 year old, as well as a fiancé who must be worried sick. His strength as an American solider and as a professional fighter served him well that night, and with the support of family and friends, he is currently in stable condition.
Jake, who was also shot, has recently just changed jobs and was supposed to start his new one as of the beginning of February, which due to his courage and selflessness that night, will have to be postponed until he's out of the hospital.
Rich, who was also shot, has a 1 year old little girl and was an active member in our military until recently and served overseas to help protect our country.
These men deserve our help, so let's give them everything we can. We're trying to make the world 10% happier, and if this isn't a good cause, I'm not sure what is. We, at NY State Chive, want to help ease the minds of the families with their medical expenses and show our deepest thanks for Lawrence, who went out of his way to save those around him. We want to gather together as a team and be able to donate as a Chive Nation to Lawrence and thank him for his bravery and give him our well wishes. All donations will be given to the family on behalf of NY State Chive in a single large donation.
Come on Chivers and Chivettes, let's do what we do best!
