A Service Dog for Lucas.

Lucas is a young adult man with a big heart and a strong desire to make a positive impact on the world.
He's compassionate, driven, and has a passion for human and animal welfare. He really wants to continue his eduction journey and obtain a college degree while leaving a lasting legacy of a positive impact and kindness.
Lucas has experienced a lot of trauma and hardship but has always been passionately committed to giving back to others. Most recently, through his volunteer work with the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors non-profit organization. He has completed several mandatory trainings to become a peer mentor, an online programming leader, and done additional research to help other young adults that are also grieving the loss of military loved ones - an experience deeply personal to Lucas since losing his older brother to brain cancer while he was active duty military in 2014. Even though Lucas is fully disabled, he has continued to help with the TAPS Young Adult Program. He has been asked to be a peer leader for many workshops, retreats, and experiences.
Despite his vibrant spirit, Lucas faces incredibly significant health challenges. He lives with a wide range of debilitating conditions: POTS, PTSD, vision impairments, and a history of seizures - just to name a few. After his previous service dog (Lady) retired in 2018 (because he was homeless and she was a senior) Lucas’s health unfortunately deteriorated even further. This includes being diagnosed with a rare brain disease, having multiple brain surgeries, being on 20+ medications, going to a six month intense hospital program, physical therapy for several injuries, having a concussion, never ending medical appointments and experiencing additional symptoms such as severe chronic migraines, unstable balance, frequent nausea, debilitating vertigo, and ongoing vision deterioration.
To improve his quality of life and manage his conditions more effectively, multiple Doctors recommend a professionally task-trained service dog. This would help him navigate daily challenges and provide vital assistance as his health continues to be unpredictable. We are currently hoping to raise $12,000 to cover a portion of the costs of training, supplies, transportation, and boarding over the next 24+ months. While we know this amount is significant, it is below standard within the service dog industry. We have already found ways to cover some other expenses. However, we still need your help to reach our goal.
Your support will make a world of difference in both Kristin and Lucas’s life. This is providing him with the tools he needs to cope with his conditions and continue his invaluable work. Any contribution, no matter the size, would be deeply appreciated. Thank you for reading to the end, considering this request, and for helping us make a profound difference in Lucas’s life. We will keep you updated on our progress, and the positive changes your generosity is making possible.
