Equine Therapies for Special Needs

In 2013, we found out that our oldest son was diagnosed with autism. Though the diagnosis of our eldest son was heart wrenching, we have dedicated ourselves to turning over every rock to find a cure. Through years of research and numerous therapies, we have seen tremendous progress in many areas including social interaction, speech, motor skills and cognition. Our son is truly a fighter and an amazing, special human being. Today, we found out that our third son is also on the autism spectrum and even at his young age of 19 months, exhibits severe symptoms that will require significant and very costly intervention in order to make the strides necessary to hopefully, one day, be able to live a 'normal' life. This news, while not completely unexpected given that autism tends to run in families, was not only difficult to hear, but also awakened a desire in us to do something more.

For years we have read about various types of therapies for children and adults with all forms of disabilities including autism, some more successful than others. One of the forms of therapy that has proven to be fruitful is equine therapy. Many parents have reported that their children have spoken their very first words while riding on the back of a horse. The joy that these parents experience cannot possibly be described in a paragraph, but even a glimpse of hope can start to heal many years of heartbreak and worry.

Through a litany of seemingly unrelated events in our lives, we now find ourselves in a position where we have a horse barn and are able to provide equine therapies not only to our boys but to countless children who need our help. We want so desperately to help other parents like ourselves who tackle the daily obstacles that our children face and we are asking your help to enable us to do just that. Your money will go 100% to developing the foundation that will help these children and others with disabilities to achieve what many have said cannot be achieved.  The money gained will go to building an indoor and outdoor riding arena, improvements to facilities and staffing of instructors and therapists to allow us to offer these vital services to our community. Through association with local and regional care providers, schools, programs and other institutions, we will establish a non-profit organization focused on lifting these children up and riding their way to a better quality of life.  Thank you!!
