Support for the Pool Familys kidney transplant
Donation protected
Last year, Juan Pool Cante was diagnosed with renal failure and has been on daily dialysis treatments since then. He desperately needs a kidney transplant – and luckily, his brother Miguel is a match. Now, after nine long months of testing and preparation, the surgery is scheduled for September 13th at UCSF Medical Center in San Francisco.
For the past 20 years, the Pool Cante family has given their everything to the Bay Area Food & Beverage industry, with all four of the Pool Cante brothers supporting, prepping for, and serving in restaurants, including Sociale Restaurant in Presidio Heights, Plow in Potrero Hill. Other notable Bay Area businesses to consider members of this family a colleague are, Sutter Instraments, Cowgirl Creamery, La Boulangerie, the Slanted Door, the Beach Chalet, Chez Mamman, Florio, the Balboa Cafe, Rubicon, 42 degrees, Jackson Fillmore, and Villa Taverna. With this GoFundMe, we can now return that favor and show them our support after all they have done for us over the years.
This fund will be used to assist with the medical bills, including co pays and deductibles, living expenses after surgery and help support the family as they care for their brothers after the surgery. Juan and Miguel will stay with their older brother Sebastian, his wife and their three children for the immediate recovery post-surgery. The total recovery period is estimated to be six months for Juan and 6-8 weeks for Miguel, with both brothers unable to work during that time.
In true Pool Cante style, brother Rigo and nephew Alex have begun working as food runners to help cover the shifts that Juan will miss during his recuperation. Miguel's current employer, Sutter Instraments, is graciously holding his job for the duration of his recovery. Now it’s our turn to help their family – which is really an extension of our hospitality family – by making sure the last thing on their minds over the coming months will be unexpected medical expenses.
