At 27 weeks gestation my beautiful sweet niece Samantha, sustained a brain injury. My sister-in-law suffered a unexpected Upper GI Bleed; we were very close to losing them both.
As a result of the brain injury, Samantha has been given several diagnoses. She has been diagnosed with Cerebal Palsey, siezures, a hypothalamus that is not working properly, she is blind and has a feeding tube. Her parents make sure she is involved in many forms of therapy. She takes Physical Therapy, Ooccupational Therapy, Speech Therapy and Horse Therapy. She recieves full time in home nursing care and has a family who loves her to the moon and back.
Samantha is now 3 years old and is growing very quickly. The family is in need of a Wheelchair Modified Van. The good new: Medicade will pay to modify a van. The bad news: They have to provide the van. They currently have a van; unforunatley, Medicade will not modify their existing van due to the amount of miles it has on it. They need to purchase a newer van with few to no miles on it.
In addition to the van, medicade is willing to provide modifications to their home; primarily their bathroom. Right now the bathroom is very small and not wheelchair accessable. The concern is Medicade may not cover the full cost of all the modifications.
It is my hope that we can raise enough money to purchase a van or at least provide a really great down payment. It is also my hope that there will be enough left over to help pay for the home modifications.
Shania and Michael (mom and dad), are fantastic parents! They give everything not only for Samantha, but for their other two children. They work hard everyday and night and they LOVE their children!
