Kazu's Family Seeks a New Safe Home

Hi. I'm Kazu. I'm 32 years old and was born and raised in Iowa. I'm also a trans, queer parent of 3 lgbtqia+ preteen/teens. I'm too disabled to work due in part to my h-EDS and my mental disabilities. I also care for my elderly disabled mother & my partner(of 15years) is our sole income AND my main caregiver.

I've NEVER been so financially screwed as I am now. In this country, being disabled is a financial death sentence. My partner & I have been together for 15 years but can't marry because I'm disabled. Simply trying to get by and make it from paycheck to paycheck has been nearly entirely impossible. With my partner being the only able-bodied adult in the house that can work AND help care for me, our kids and my mother. I have A LOT of health issues and this calls for A LOT of dr/specialist appointments which he has to miss work to take me to. He also ends up missing work on my really bad days because he has to stay home and take care of me, etc. All that aside, we DESPERATELY NEED to get to a blue state. We're stuck in Iowa. It wasn't as bad when I was young but now it's HORRID. My son is only 13 and we literally had to file a cease and desist order against a freakin 8th grader because of the level of homophobic bullying that was occurring. My son has been pushed, kicked, hit, had his things snatched and broken in front of him, been called every homophobic slur you can think of and also had this SAME CHILD threaten to r-word his little sister whom attends the same school in 6th grade. The school isn't even handling it the way they are supposed to and some how keep ending up placing this damn kid in his classes when he wasn't even supposed to ever cross paths with him.

With the way things are currently looking in America for LGBTQIA+ individuals, ESPECIALLY trans individuals, it is no longer safe for my family and I to be living in a red state like this. I know that homophobia and transphobia exists pretty much everywhere, at least in a blue state like Minnesota or Oregon they will LEGALLY have our backs and will ACTUALLY TRY to fight back against Trump's federally sanctioned Homophobia and Transphobia as well where as my home-state's governor has been chomping at the bit to fall in line with Trump's lackys and had already begun GUTTING funding for public schools before Trump even won this time. We're scared and for good reason. We're not safe AT ALL. I'm terrified for my children, for myself. It's not JUST LGBTQIA+ issues either. It's also health issues that would be better treated in Minnesota or Oregon, It's abortion access and reproductive care that's protected there but not here. The only real solution for us is to flee.

I have friends in Oregon so that's honestly where I want to EVENTUALLY end up but due to the urgency, we've decided to settle for Minnesota as it checks all of our boxes EXCEPT weather and already knowing people there.

Please consider donating if you're able My goal is unfortunately large because it's incredibly expensive to move much more so to move to another state all together with belongings that need shipping and animals that need slowly re-introduced after a long ass car ride, finding an animal friendly place to stay, gas, food, medications, etc. I truly don't even know if what I'm asking for is enough.
