Kayte's Cancer Journey
Donation protected
Hi everyone and welcome to Kayte's fundraiser. After reviewing everything that is to come I thought that this was the best thing to do for my sister.
My name is Melanie and I’ve started this go fund me for Katelyn Wensveen.
Anyone that knows Kayte knows her deep love of animals, her signature smile that brightens the room, her talent for creating beautiful hair and how kind, open and honest she is with everyone in her life.
For over a year Kayte had been having very intense pain in her abdomen and just felt "off". She kept saying she knew something was wrong. After numerous visits to walk-in clinics and the hospital during the lockdowns and having it be brushed off or misdiagnosed, she finally found someone that listened and was willing to investigate further. On Halloween of this year Kayte was diagnosed with a cervical cancer called Adenosquamous Carcinoma when they discovered a rather large tumour in her uterus. It was not what we wanted to hear but it was an answer and confirmed that she was right to not ignore her instincts.
Kayte was referred to Juravinski Cancer Center in Hamilton and within only a few weeks they have done all the necessary tests and scans and have decided on a treatment plan. We were hoping for surgery but that is off the table due to the size of the tumour so they are starting her off with radiation treatment 5 days a week for 5 weeks along with chemotherapy every Friday.
This will all begin mid-January which means driving to and from Hamilton daily along with parking charges and medications that aren’t currently covered since she unfortunately doesn’t have benefits. On top of this, they have told her to plan to be off for at least several months and then they will re-access. It’s a lot to process and a lot to plan for.
As many of you know, our family is no stranger to this awful disease but we are strong and full of hope. I’ve had so many of her friends and clients reach out asking if they could help or donate and I thought this would be an easy and accessible way to be able to give her some relief to help ease the financial part of this journey so she can focus more on the healing and fighting part and less on how to pay for it all.
Right now we’re spending the next few weeks preparing our home and planning for what is coming next.
I can’t thank you all enough for rallying around her, the community we both share is absolutely incredible and means so much to have you all. Not everyone can donate but even just a share would be so wonderful. Thank you so much xo
