Hey everybody!

My name is Kaylene Zamudio, I'm a pre-med student at UC Berkeley and I have been blessed with the opportunity to join the MEDLIFE team for their upcoming volunteer trip from December 24th through January 15th, 2017 in Lima, Peru. MEDLIFE is an organization built on the principles of improving accessibility to Medicine, Education, and Development for Low Income Families Everywhere.

The mission of MEDLIFE is to help families achieve greater freedom from the constraints of poverty, empowering them to live healthier lives.

My work will be centered in Pamplona Alta, where a community of over 20,000 residents and growing have no direct sewage or water lines. One of the goals of UC Berkeley’s MEDLIFE is to improve this inadequate system with a sustainable Clean Water Initiative.

I will be volunteering with local doctors and medical professionals who seek to aid those who have little to no access to proper health care services.

When not working with medical professionals I will either be spending time working with the youth of the community (teaching healthy habits such as proper tooth brushing or explaining the importance of a healthy and balanced diet) or working with the community development team.

The landscape of Pamplona Alta is very dangerous and each time someone tries to go to the top of the mountain get water or perform a simple task they have a possibility of injuring themselves due to how their area is structured. As a result, with the community development team we will be building a staircase for the people of the community (a small but an impactful way that can make their lives a little more convenient).

I’m incredibly grateful that I am in good health and that I can do daily tasks without my life being in possible danger due to unsafe circumstances. I really want to pay it forward.

The moment I was selected to be apart of the MEDLIFE team, I knew that this was going to be something special. Unfortunately, this volunteer trip isn't the most affordable and to make this opportunity a reality I am looking to raise $2500 to pay for my housing and flights to South America.

The cost covers
-airfare, housing, meals
-medicine and medical equipment
-the hiring of volunteer doctors and nurses
-patient follow-up care

As a college student, I understand that there may be financial constrictions, and I completely understand if donating is not possible at this time but if you wish, any size donation or sharing of my story would be greatly appreciated!

Please, feel free to contact me if you have any questions! I would love and be more than happy to talk with you about the program and why it's important to me!

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this, it’s greatly appreciated! With your support, we can make a direct impact in fighting the troubles of poverty and social inequality!
