Kayleigh's Story
A lifelong resident of Amarillo, Texas, Kayleigh met a young man 12 years ago who would later be her saving grace, Kayleigh's story begins here...
When Kayleigh met Josh, it was not long before their new live was going to be full of excitement! They both enjoyed having fun with friends and fueled their lives with sports. Within 2 years God graced their lives with a beautiful baby girl, Kaybri, who would later save her mommy's life. With her daddy's eyes and her mothers smile, she was made to reflect the love the two shared. A few short years later, their 2nd daughter was born, Jayzlee, sweet, fully of imagination and wonder. Jayzlee's love for her family filled the home with a tender touch. Then just 5 years after Jayzlee, came Kynzley, don't let her sweet face fool you, she is full of fire! Kynzley graced their home as a little boss lady!
Over the past 12 years, Josh, a Countertop Fabricator and Kayleigh a TSR Certified Teacher, dedicated their entire family to sports. 7 years ago Josh & his brother JJ, built a 5th grade Basketball team named West Texas Force ( https://www.facebook.com/forcewesttexas/ ) . Josh & JJ poured their hearts into this team, with much of its original members. With these coaches dedication & training they have turned into a strong and respected team among the community.
Kayleigh has been a mother to this team the whole time. She is there for every game, event and fundraiser, pouring just as much love into the game and the team as the coach. She plans all the events, games, tournaments and travel, without her they would be lost.
Not only does Kayleigh manage the WTX Force Family, but she coaches both of her daughter's Volleyball teams, with just as much dedication and support through Kids Inc. of Amarillo.
Recently, this 32 year old amazing and energetic mother of 3 beautiful young girls, had a life changing event that would effect every aspect of her life, her family, friends, the girls volleyball teams, WTX Force and family, her work family, all of friends and most of all herself.
Kayleigh's fall...
The morning of May 14th, 2019, Kayleigh woke up before the family to get ready, as she does each morning. Something wasn't right. As she walked into the bathroom to brush her teeth, she collapsed, waking 11 year old Kaybri from her sleep, the loud groaning noise she made even woke Josh, who originally thought the kids were playing with a toy. Kaybri walked in to see her mother lying on the bathroom floor, seizing, panicked she tried pulling on her to get up. Kaybri ran to her dad telling him, "Mommy fell and can't get up". Josh rushed to the bathroom, toothbrush on the sink, Kayleigh on the floor, he had no idea of what was happening. He called for an ambulance & held her as she seized and waited for the ambulance to come. Anyone that has ever waited for help to come must know just how excruciating it would be.
Once help arrived, they swept her away and Josh was left to follow.
At the hospital Josh would learn that not only did Kayleigh had a Brain Aneurysm, but there were multiple. She would be loaded to a Jet and flown to Lubbock as soon as possible. Heartbroken, Josh sat in the waiting area, calling friends and family, letting them know something was wrong, even asking Kassey, to help with canceling practice for the WTX Force team. His world began to unravel around him as he drove the long distance to Lubbock to be there by her side, she was just as much a team player as he in this life, what would this world be like without her.
Kayleigh's Strength...
In a Lubbock Hospital, Josh arrived and within a short time Kayleigh was awake AND FIGHTING! She was pushing away the hospital staff, who later told us just how much she made them "work for their money" that day! But she was AWAKE and STRONG! A surgery was scheduled and in no time this amazing Surgeon had her on the table and was working to repair the damages. The Surgeon even commended the nurses for saving Kayleigh's life, she has lost 6 liters of blood and without them, she surely would not have survived. But Kayleigh is strong, her will to live pushed through to her recovery, where she still gave the nurses a run for their money, yet they all just fell in love with her... how amazing she is, how strong she is and how she made them laugh, even braiding her own hair again ;) ... she was coming back to us, with Josh by her side everyday, holding her hand every step of the way, being the best man God could give her.
Kayleigh's Determination...
Kayleigh's stay in the hospital so far was long, 16 days, but very hard on her, so hard that she just wasn't getting the strength built up that she needed to prepare for the surgeries to come. After many visits, the Surgeon told Kayleigh, I am sending you home to build your strength and get ready for the next step, to fix the next aneurysm & replace the missing piece of skull we removed to repair the first one. Once home, Kayleigh must have 24 hour care, never to be left alone. Of course, if you know Kayleigh's determination (stubborn self), she got home and already started in with the games, the kids and just getting back to who she was before all of this happened. Yes, she has even been attending games!! (Crazy Girl)!!! Of course she has been cautious and Josh has yet to leave her side, following her everywhere... EVERYWHERE! Taking care of her and making sure she is well taken care of! God Bless Josh... If it wasn't for Josh, there wouldn't be a Kayleigh!
Kayleigh's Future...
Kayleigh's future will be filled with additional surgeries and physical therapy, putting her body back together and rebuilding the strength to be the mother, partner, friend, coworker, coach, mom coach & amazing community member we all know her to be.
She returns to Lubbock the 1st of July for the next surgery, she is to prepare for a few months hospital stay with no for sure date of when she will return to her home with her family.
****Keep checking back on her progress while we take you along on the rest of her journey ...* ***
Kayleigh's Family & Friends...
I would never leave these people out!
Let me begin with her daughter's, Kaybri age 11, Jayzlee age 7 and Kynzley just 2 years old, still wrapping their little heads around this tragic event, they have had a roller coaster of events unfold.
With their grandmother Valerie, Josh's mom, stepping in and caring for them this entire time, they have shown the same strength as their amazing mommy. Still unsure of what is to come, they hold hope that their mommy will come back to them full of life and love.
Josh, who has proven his strength with Kayleigh, also did with his girls! The moment they arrived in Lubbock, his love and affection blanketed the girls with comfort and strength. It is truly rare to find a person, heartbroken and scared, have the ability to pull his family together in such a positive and promising way. Taking the time to laugh a little and remind the girls of the love & hope they hold for their mommy.
Josh's Employer, they never skipped a beat! Josh was told to take the time he needed to take care of Kayleigh with no worries about his position.
Kayleigh's employer took the long drive daily to be by Kayleigh's side and helps to set up a bank account for the Kayleigh Frank fund where these funds will be applied.
Kassey Newman and I, Danielle Dalpaz, drove down together & stayed for a few days to be there for Josh during Kayleigh's surgery and be there when Kayleigh woke up, took her first few steps and hang out with the girls. Together they are selling Brain Aneurysm Awareness T-shirts to help with the Kayleigh Frank fund. Along with having the chance to have Kayleigh grace our household while Josh goes back to work =)
Kayleigh's Dad took the long drive from Oklahoma while his daughter lay waiting for surgery. Upon arrival and long stay, his kind smile always greeted everyone who crossed his path. He quietly suffered as well but hold hope and love that Kayleigh will come out strong and full of life.
WTX Force Family, this team was hit pretty hard with the news of their Mom Coach. The calls, visits and concerns have poured in as they are cheering her on and keeping the hope and love alive while Kayleigh recovers!
