Kaylee's Story
11 years ago, Kaylee Edgehouse VanWagoner gave birth to a beautiful baby boy. How could she have known that her life would change forever. She was blessed with a healthy baby but her life was at death's door.
Kaylee was rushed to the hospital. Doctors spent the next couple of weeks trying to figure out what was making her so sick. Her doctors were able to save her life but not her kidneys. Kaylee was diagnosed with HUS, a rare disease affecting 2.1 per 100,000 people. She was put on dialysis and after 7 months her brother Kasey donated a kidney. Kasey's kidney lasted 3 years before it failed and Kaylee went back on dialysis.
After a couple of years on dialysis, Kaylee's best friend was tested and came back a match. She donated one of her kidneys to Kaylee. Unfortunately after 4 years this kidney failed too.
After the 2nd transplant and a lot of testing, the doctors finally diagnosed her with an even rarer disease
aHUS. She is now on medication that is very expensive for the rest of her life. With this diagnosis, the doctors have put her back on the transplant list and we hope she will be recieving another kidney soon. The doctors say the chances of her new kidney failing are now very slim.
Kaylee is an amazing person and for those of you who have seen her infectious smile you know what I mean. She finished her cosmetology school and business degree while working full time and being dialysied 3 times a week. And lets not forget she is an awesome mother, wife, sister, daughter and friend, remember that smile ! She loves life and always has a positive attitude.
Kaylee has been in and out of hospitals so times. The cost of medical bills has left her family with so much debt.
Kaylee has helped so many in this community and now she needs our help once again. A 3rd kidney is going to be life changing for her and her family. Please remember Kaylee in your prayers as she begins this journey for the LAST time.
