Kaylee Heckber

Kaylee is a beautiful 17-year-old girl who has her whole life ahead of her. On Thursday, March 9th her parents received news that no parent ever wants to hear. Kaylee was on her way home, just a short distance from her destination when she was T-Boned by an intoxicated driver. She was transported to Lutheran Hospital with life-threatening injuries where they immediately took her into surgery. Kaylee had several lacerations to her forehead, the back of her arm and her left ear was split open. Her left clavicle was broken, her Right side rib was damaged, 2 collapsed lungs, and lacerations to her kidney, liver, colon and bowel, her spleen was ruptured and had to be removed. Once her initial surgery was completed she was moved to ICU and remained in very critical condition. While in ICU many tests have been performed to determine the extent of her injuries where she was also given several units of blood and they worked on getting her core body temperature up. A CT Scan and MRI were completed on March 10th that revealed more injuries. Kaylee has bleeding in the front part of her brain and has had several small strokes throughout her brain. Her carotid arteries had damage to the inside wall, which was less than what was needed to install stints, which was some positive news. She has 2 drainage tubes around her lungs and 1 around her stomach area. She is currently on a ventilation machine and given a low dose of sedative to keep her out to give time for her body to heal yet allow the Doctors to see what functions she has. Kaylee has movement in both arms and legs, however, we don't know yet if it's voluntary or just reactions but overall it is a good sign. She is more stable today, but the next 48 hours are critical for her brain development. Please pray in specific that the bleeding has stopped and that the brain does not swell.
