One of Crossfit REPO's own needs your prayers and thoughts in the coming months. Kayla Streich, our beautifully strong Daughter In Law will be undergoing biopsy surgery in her back where her cancer previously was. The surgery will put her in the hospital for 3 days and take her out of work for 6 weeks. With time off work, medical expenses, and travel for her and her husband Jonathan back and forth to Nebraska money will get tight. At 23 and 22 yrs old we all struggled with finances, the last thing I want them to have to worry about is making ends meet, I want all of their focus to be on her getting well. Anything you can do to help is appreciated more than you know.
Crossfit REPO will be hosting a benefit on March 19th, 2016 with a workout, silent auction and food for anyone who can make it up to Alexandria, MN. Come see what they CF community is all about in times like these. Benefit for Kayla Streich
Below is our beautiful Kayla's story so far.
Two months before my 6th birthday and three days after my first day of Kindergarten, I was diagnosed with a bone cancer called Ewing's Sarcoma in my lower spine. The next step was surgically removing as much of the tumor without doing significant nerve damage to my legs, and about a year of intense chemotherapy and 10 weeks of radiation treatments followed. Removal of the tumor did cause some permanent nerve damage on mainly my right side and a weaker, more fragile back after radiation treatments but nothing I couldn't handle. :) I have been in remission 17 year since!
In November I started feeling pain and pressure in my lower back. After getting an MRI done and having a neurosurgeon examine it, he explained that there is a spot on my lower back that the contrast dye is attaching itself to.
The Neurosurgeon will be doing a surgical biopsy, opening up my previous incision from where my cancer once was, on the spot March 23rd in Omaha, Nebraska. He will then send the biopsy to pathology and we will go from there! He plans on scraping and cleaning out any built up scare tissue that has built up over the years, hoping it will relieve some pain. After the surgical biopsy, the recovery process will be about 6 weeks until I can go back to work or my normal life things.
