This is Kayla's Korner. Kayla Winkler is my daughter Hailey's best friend. They are as close as any two people can get. Puzzle pieces with all different sides that somehow just fit together. Kayla was recently diagnosed with "Grey Zone Lymphoma" This is a combination of both Hodgkins and Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. Kayla is only 17 years old. She is a truly remarkable teenager. Very caring, honest, loyal, bright, quick witted, outspoken and hardworking and the best friend, daughter and sister anyone could ask for. Kayla's journey began only a short time ago. She had a lump removed from her neck that was biopsied and not soon after found to by cancerous. She's already endured test after test, EKG's, Spinal Taps, Blood tests, Body scans, the insertion of a port line for her chemotherapy, and many many more. Kayla will soon begin her Chemotherapy treatments at the Goryeb Children's Hospital at Morristown Medical Center. The beginning to hopefully the end of this chapter of her life. She is much too young to have to endure the effects of chemotherapy and everything it encompasses. BUT she has the strength to fight this disease. And she has an amazing support group behind her to help her through every second of it.
As you might imagine this will be a very difficult time for the entire Winkler Family. Besides the added expenses of what the insurance won't cover, the cost of all the medications, the gas money getting back and forth, there will also be so many other non-budgeted expenses to cover. Sandy and Herb Winkler are not at all the type of people to ask others for help., so Hailey and I are.

This family needs all the support they can get from their family, friends, schoolmates and the community. Please find it in your hearts to support them in any way you feel you can. I know that it would mean the world to me and Hailey and more than anything it will help Kayla and her family in many ways.
Thank you
