Kayla's PhD Dream: A First-Gen Mom's Challenge
Donation protected
Hello everyone,
My name is Kayla Williams, and I am currently pursuing my PhD in Educational Management at Hampton University. I am proud to be a first-generation college student who has already earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Tuskegee University and a Master’s in Higher Education Administration from Southern New Hampshire University.
Now, I am so close to reaching my ultimate goal — my PhD.
I have about one year left to complete my degree. This fall, I will take my comprehensive exams, and after passing, I’ll move on to writing my dissertation.
I am also a proud mom to a beautiful daughter who will be turning two years old in July — and we even share the same birthday, July 7th! Balancing motherhood, full-time work, and doctoral studies has been challenging, but I’ve stayed committed to finishing what I started.
I currently work as a Program Manager for a medical school in Georgia. However, they do not offer tuition support, and unfortunately, my university does not have institutional scholarships or funding available either.
Up until now, I was relying on the federal Grad PLUS loan to finance my studies. Recently, I was informed that I am no longer eligible for this loan for the upcoming year, leaving me stuck at a critical moment.
Right now, I urgently need help covering my tuition for this current semester.
Without paying this balance, I will not be able to register for the next semester, which would delay my progress toward completing my PhD.
Every gift — no matter the size — will go directly toward covering my tuition and keeping me on track to graduate.
Your support would not just help me, it would change the future for me and my daughter.
Thank you so much for standing with us.
We are deeply grateful for your encouragement, prayers, and generosity.
With love and gratitude,
Kayla Williams
