Seven year old girl loses her mom the day after Christmas
Seven years ago during her pregnancy with Mya, Kayla developed a rare heart condition known as peripartum cardiomyopathy. This condition weakens the heart muscle and causes the heart to become enlarged. Her doctors were able to manage her condition for a couple of years with medications, but within two years, her heart had deteriorated to the point where she had to have a pacemaker put in. In February of 2015, she had to have a device placed in her chest that would help pump her heart for her. Unfortunately, Kayla got an infection from the device and has been fighting an ongoing battle for quite some time. 2016 was a nightmare for Kayla & her 7 year old daughter Mya. Kayla spent most of her time in the hospital with infections while Mya was cared for by family members. In early October, Kayla had a stroke and a blood clot lodged in her brain. The blood clot was infected and within seven days Kayla had brain surgery to remove the clot. The doctors came to the conclusion that the device had to be removed from her chest because there was no other way of getting rid of the infection. It was ultimately determined that Kayla’s condition was terminal and the doctors didn’t know how long she would survive. Kayla was then released from the hospital and placed under hospice care so that she could spend her last Christmas with her daughter. On December 26, 2016 Kayla died peacefully at the young age of 27 surrounded by loved ones. Our family appreciates you taking the time to read Kayla’s story. Any donation you can give to help pay for Kayla’s funeral expenses and to support Mya would be a blessing.
