Help Support Kayla’s Healing Journey
Kayla has been through more in the past three years than most people will ever face. Through it all, she has kept fighting for her health and her future, but now she truly needs our help.
In just the last two months, Kayla has endured two brain surgeries, with more still ahead. This summer she went through a foramen magnum decompression, a C1 and C2 laminectomy, a duraplasty, and a craniotomy. These words might sound complicated, but what it really means is that surgeons had to remove bone at the base of her skull, part of two vertebrae in her neck, and repair the protective lining around her brain and spinal cord just to relieve the crushing pressure inside her head.
The surgery was terrifying but necessary. Instead of bringing her relief, it led to devastating complications. Kayla developed a large cerebrospinal fluid leak, which meant the fluid that should protect her brain and spinal cord was leaking out through her nose and scalp. A large fluid pocket, called a pseudomeningocele, formed under her skin at the back of her head.
This left her bedridden for two months, unable to sit up, in constant pain and fear. She suffered severe muscle stiffness, weakness, and relentless headaches. And she isn’t done yet. She still faces more surgeries to deal with her pituitary tumor, her mastoid bone and ear, and the draining of two syrinxes—fluid-filled cavities inside her spinal cord that cause nerve damage and rob her of mobility. On top of that, she has bulging discs in her neck that press on her nerves, adding even more pain.
This isn’t just about surgeries. It’s about waking up every day in a body that won’t give her a break. It’s about fighting through pain, exhaustion, and fear while still trying to hold onto hope.
Kayla urgently needs help covering the costs of care that aren’t covered, including:
• A medical-grade wig after losing much of her hair from surgery
• Physiotherapy and massage therapy to rebuild strength and reduce pain
• Botox injections for her shoulders, recommended for severe muscle pain
• Prescription medications
• New eyeglasses after surgery affected her vision
• Travel costs to see specialists out of town
• Counseling and mental health support to help her cope with everything she’s endured
For four years, Kayla gave her whole heart and every ounce of strength to caring for her son Jaxon, who had complex medical needs. She was his advocate, his caregiver, and his safe place. Just six months after Jaxon passed away, Kayla was diagnosed with her own serious conditions:
• Chiari malformation – brain tissue slipping into the spinal canal
• Pituitary adenoma – a tumor on the pituitary gland
• Fused mastoid bone
• Two spinal syrinxes – fluid-filled cavities inside her spinal cord
• Bulging cervical discs (C5–C7) – worsening her pain and nerve damage
Since then, her life has been filled with hospitals, surgeries, recoveries, and setbacks. She is unable to work and lives on a fixed income. The financial weight of simply surviving has become unbearable.
We are asking for your help to raise $8,000 so Kayla can get the treatments, therapies, and medications she desperately needs. Your support will give her a chance at some relief and let her focus on healing instead of worrying about how to pay for it all.
If you cannot donate, please share her story. Every share, every kind word, and every contribution, no matter the size, will help lift some of the weight she carries.
Kayla has always been the one to care for others. Now, it’s our turn to care for her.
Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, for standing with her through this unimaginable journey.
