Kayla's Fight against COVID.
Donation protected
Coming out of 2020 our family was optimistic for the new year, never would we have imagined the challenging times that 2021 would bring us.
In April, Kayla tested positive for Covid-19. This was especially concerning with her being pregnant with her 4th child. She spent time at Troy Beaumont and shortly after was transferred to Royal Oak Beaumont to best meet her and the baby's needs. While in Royal Oak, Kayla delivered her and Drew's baby girl at 27 weeks on May 2nd. The baby is healthy, went through typical preemie precautions, and continues to be ahead of her developmental schedule.
After delivering her daughter, Kayla was placed in an induced coma and on a ventilator to keep her stable. After a week, and lack of improvement, the medical staff urged that Kayla be placed on ECMO. No units were available in all of Michigan, however we were fortunate enough that Cleveland Clinic not only had availability but also was willing to accept Kayla into their care (air lift and all).
Since May 7th, Kayla has been cared for at Cleveland Clinic and on ECMO treatment. She continues to fight this horrible disease; as does her team of family, friends, nurses and physicians.
We appreciate everyone's continued prayers and thoughts for Kayla to beat this. If you feel inclined to offer any financial support to assist in medical and travel expenses it will be greatly great appreciated.
