Hey there, my name is Kiley and I am a very close friend of Kayla’s. Just recently she was diagnosed with invasive mammary carcinoma. At only 26 years old, this was devastating news. This past month has been filled with doctors appointments and tests. The pathology report showed that it is considered “triple-negative” meaning that it is faster growing than other breast cancers. Thankfully, the lymph node biopsy came back negative which tells us it isn’t spreading. We went to Boston to meet the doctors down there and look into her options. They talked about genetic testing and fertility options both of which will be very expensive for Kayla. She has decided to do the majority of her treatment here in Maine but has to look into fertility down in Boston. She will also have her surgery to remove the lump in Boston. It is already very stressful and it really has just hardly begun. We are hoping to help Kayla out as much as we can and relieve some of the financial burden she is about to have. Myself, as well as her family and friends, want to make sure she has the best care possible and doesn’t worry about finances. Kayla is a great friend to many, with such a caring heart. Any amount you choose to donate is greatly appreciated and 100% will go directly to Kayla and her treatment and many trips to Boston.
Update 9/18-
Chemo has started this week. Kayla is trying something called penguin cold caps which is a way to help retain some of her hair during her treatments. Kayla did the genetic testing and she came back negative for the BRCA gene which is great! Her fertility treatments are done now as well and she was able to freeze some eggs. Her final diagnosis is Stage 2B invasive mammary carcinoma.
A few weeks ago her doctors did a bone scan and something lit up on her femur, they still aren’t 100% sure what it is and we are waiting for answers. Kayla has been very positive throughout this whole week and is feeling ok so far. Thank you all so much for helping to support her!
