Dear friends, community, and compassionate hearts,
My family is raising funds to access trauma-focused therapy and essential medications for both myself and my daughter. We are desperately trying to rebuild after years of trauma but have limited resources to access the specialized care needed.
As survivors of sexual abuse, we face ongoing challenges related to PTSD, anxiety, and depression.
Unfortunately, the waitlists for publicly funded support are long, and out-of-pocket costs for private therapy and prescriptions are overwhelming.
What your support covers:
• Private trauma therapy sessions ($120–$180/session)
• Ongoing psychiatric support
• Prescription medications for mental health management (e.g., antidepressants, sleep support)
• Resources to support my daughter’s healing, including child-focused therapy and emotional regulation tools
Every dollar raised goes directly toward our healing. Your support gives us a real chance at stability, recovery, and reclaiming our lives.
Why This Matters?
In Canada, 83% of sexual assaults are not reported to police, and the majority of survivors are women and girls who know their assailant. In Ontario, sexual assault centres have faced increased demands, responding to over 50,000 crisis line calls in a single year, up from 30,000 in 2009. Despite this, funding has not kept pace, leading to long wait times and limited access to trauma-informed care.
How Funds Will Be Used
• Individual therapy sessions for both of us
• Trauma-informed and youth-specific care
• Potential assessments or specialized supports if needed
• Transportation and related wellness costs (e.g., child care during sessions)
This has led to a decline in our financially stability, quality of life and mental health.
Our Story
Four years ago, our family's lives changed. Our 12-year-old daughter attempted suicide. Following this my daughter revealed she had suffered severe unimaginable abuse by her father. What followed has been an unrelenting battle: multiple suicide attempts, countless hospitalizations, and periods of intensive residential treatment.
Last year we had to endure an excruciating lengthy trial – where Torrin testified against her father in court. She had to relive her trauma and fought to be believed. The result was not in our favour, and I cannot begin to express how that affected Torrin and our family. No child should ever have to face such a burden and feel the toll that a hope for justice has let you down. This has robbed her of her childhood and the formative teenage years that should have been filled with friends, school achievements, and normal developmental milestones.
If you cannot donate, sharing our story would mean the world to us. Sometimes the greatest gift is connecting someone in need with those who can help.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for reading our story. Thank you for seeing us, for believing in our fight to heal, and for any support you can offer two survivors trying to rebuild from unimaginable pain.
With profound gratitude,
Kayla and family
